On 24 July 2025, long day care menu assessments got a major upgrade!

The new assessment screen now provides all your feedback in one place. No need to wait for the full PDF to find out if you meet the Victorian Menu planning guidelines for long day care.

Here’s what’s new:

How to do a long day care menu assessment.

 

What’s has changed?

Long day care menu assessments now provide instant results when you add, edit or remove items from the menu. You'll also get specific advice on what to add or remove to meet the Victorian Menu planning guidelines for long day care, and

 

Have the Menu planning guidelines for long day care changed?

The Menu planning guidelines for long day care have not changed. The new-look long day care menu assessment screen in FoodChecker shows you results as you add items to the menu, and provides specific advice on what to add or remove to meet the daily and weekly targets.

 

Do I still have to answer questions after inputting my weekly menu?

Yes. When you have finished entering all foods and drinks on the weekly menu, click the green ‘Next’ to button to answer some questions about your menu, then click submit your menu to get the final results and download a PDF report.

 

Can I still edit my previous assessments?

Yes. When you open a draft assessment, it will now appear in the new look assessment screen with instant feedback.

 

Do I still get a PDF report?

Yes. Once you have finished adding all foods and drinks to the menu for one week, you will answer some questions, such as infant feeding and food variety. Then you can submit your assessment to get your final results and a PDF report.

You can also download a copy of the weekly menu, and a shopping list that includes every ingredient on the menu for one week.

 

How can I prove that my menu meets the guidelines for the National Quality Standard, Smiles 4 Miles or Achievement Program?

When you complete a menu assessment, you can download a PDF report that states if the menu meets the Menu planning guidelines for long day care, which you can use as evidence for the National Quality Standard, Smiles 4 Miles or Achievement Program.
