We are phasing out the long day care 'one day' assessments

After 1 June 2024, the long day care 'one day' menu assessment option will not be available on FoodChecker.

Why are the one day assessments being removed?

In mid-2024, we're making some exciting updates to long day care assessments, meaning it will be much faster and easier to plan a long day care menu that meets the Menu planning guidelines. You will be able to plan as much, or as little, of the menu as you want, so there will be no need for a separate one day assessment function!

Phasing out the one day assessment function now means that you will be ready to use the new and improved long day care assessments without any disruption!

When will the one day assessment function be removed?

From 1 May 2024, you will not be able to start a new one day assessment. However, you will still be able to edit existing one day assessments.

  • In April: One day assessments are available, but we encourage all long day care users start a one week assessment instead, even if you only want to check one day of your menu.
  • After 1 May: You will not be able to start a new one day assessment, but you can copy and edit existing one day assessments if needed.
  • After 1 June: You will not be able to start a new one day assessment or copy or edit existing one day assessments. You will be able to view your existing one day assessments.

What is the difference between the one day and one week assessment options?

The one week assessment option allows you to assess your whole long day care menu against the Menu Planning Guidelines for Long Day Care. You will get feedback on areas of the menu that meet the guidelines, and tailored recommendations to meet the guidelines for each separate day. You also get a PDF report that you can use as evidence that your menu meets the guidelines.

In comparison, the one day assessment option only allows you to check if one day of your menu aligns with the Menu Planning Guidelines. And you do not get a PDF report that can be used as evidence that your menu meets the guidelines.

The good news is you get the exact same feedback in the one week assessment option, and more!

The one week assessment option is a much better use of your valuable time, PLUS you'll be ready for the exciting updates to long day care assessments coming in late 2024!

Can I transfer a one day menu into a one week assessment?

You won't be able to directly transfer your recipes from a one day assessment into a one week assessment, but there are some handy ways to save your recipes and add them into a new assessment in just a few clicks.

  • For one day assessments that you want to use again: You can save your favourite recipes and recreate the one day menu or a one week menu assessment.
  • For one day assessments that you don’t want to use again: You can relax, and just look forward to the exciting updates to long day care assessments coming soon!

Here’s how to recreate your one day menu assessment in a one week menu assessment:

Step 1: Save your recipes

(If these recipes are already in your recipe bank you can skip this step!)

  1. Log in to FoodChecker and click ‘My assessments’ at the top of the screen.
  2. Find the one day assessment that you want to save recipes from. Click on the assessment name to open it.
  3. Continue until you see the assessment screen.
  4. Find the first recipe that you want to save and click ‘Edit’.
  5. The recipe will appear in a pop-up box. Click ‘Save to recipe bank’ at the bottom of the box.
  6. A confirmation message will appear on screen, then you can close the recipe box.
  7. Find the next recipe that you want to save, then repeat steps 4-7 until you have saved every recipe that you want to re-use.

Step 2: Add your recipes into a new one week assessment.

  1. Click ‘Start assessment’ at the top of screen and select the blue ‘Long day care’ option.
  2. Select ‘One week assessment’ and continue the assessment setup until you enter the main assessment screen.
  3. Click ‘My recipe bank’ and find the recipe you want to add, then click ‘Add’.
  4. The recipe will appear in a pop-up box. Select which day of the week and which time of day to add it to, then click ‘Add to assessment’.
  5. Continue steps 3 and 4 until you have added all required recipes for that day into the assessment.
  6. If you want to add more foods and drinks to the menu, click ‘Add item’, ‘My recipe bank’, or ‘Common recipes’.

Once you have entered every food and drink for that day, you can choose to do one of the following options:

a) Exit FoodChecker, and your progress will be saved. You can return to this assessment at any time in future, or

b) Complete the full week, or

c) Get feedback on one day so far:

1. Click ‘Next’, then answer the questions on the next screen, then click ‘Finish assessment’.

2. Your results will appear on screen. Click ‘Save assessment as PDF’ to download your report. If you have not entered a full week menu, the results will say that the menu does not meet the Menu Planning Guidelines, but you don’t need to worry about this as you were only checking one day.

3. Scroll down to view the feedback for each individual day. Your results will show you where each day does meet the guidelines and may include recommendations for healthier changes. If there are no recommendations for that day, congratulations! It means that day aligns with the Menu Planning Guidelines!

Can I edit my existing one day assessments?

Yes, you will be able to edit and copy existing one day assessments until Friday 31 May 2024. After 1 June 2024, you will only be able to view existing one day assessments, you will not be able to copy or edit them.
